Leipzig Toy Fair "Modell Hobby Spiel" Trip 2016
Hi!
Kay Schaber and me making a trip to the Modell Hobby and Spiel Toy Fair in Leipzig. Kay did this trip several times but for me it is the first time and I would like to share some information, pictures and impressions.
Instead of making an ultra long review I would try to do some kind of "live thread"
All I post comes directly from my smartphone which sometimes is a bit tricky, especially without WiFi the most time.
I will try my best and will update this thread as good as I can.
Greetings,
Linus

Re: Leipzig Toy Fair "Modell Hobby Spiel" Trip 2016
Kay and me made a stop in Hannover and visited a friend of Kay. He has a very large YY collection including many prepro and trial models. It was the first time I saw a YY of that dimension in person. I sadly had not the opportunity to take pictures, I'am sorry for that.
We have round about 70km to drive until we are going to arrive in Leipzig.

Re: Leipzig Toy Fair "Modell Hobby Spiel" Trip 2016
We arrived at the toy fair at 14:00.
We supported Dirk Schleuer (who organizes the matchbox stall, moyshop.de) in displaying all his models.
It is a large quantity with models from nearly all matchbox ranges. From Regular wheels to the current 2016 line. Many rare yesteryears and collectibles, too.
Kay was very busy in displaying his models, too, as he has many models for sale.
I will try to upload many pictures of the matchbox stall tomorrow.
We finished this task at 18:00 and afterwards Kay and me checked in our hotel.
Later we met all matchbox involved at another hotel and went out for dinner.
The toy fair openes officially at 10:00 tomorrow. I'am looking forward to this event and hope for some good finds, too.

many thanks Linus for the nice photos and reports sofar on Leipzig.
I have visited the fair several times, there used to be a toyshow in the nearby hotel but that is no longer organized.
Looking forward to more .....

Dirk Schleuer just told us yesterday that there's going to be a Leipzig Matchbox convention again next year (like in the good old days)!
Our trip has been real fun so far, and it's really great to have a keen young collector like Linus with me!
So stay tuned for his next updates everybody!
Kay

Great report Linus. Was it Holger that you visited ? Shame no pics as he has a very extensive collection and would have been nice to see them. Keep posting as most enjoyable.

Re: Leipzig Toy Fair "Modell Hobby Spiel" Trip 2016
Excuse me for the delay!
Now it's yet again some type of review...
Well, let's talk about friday. Kay and me left the hotel at 08:30 I think and got breakfest. (I usually go without breakfest, so I took my sandwiches to the Toyfair! )
After that we met the mbx team around Dirk Schleuer (http://moyshop.de/) at 09:15 when I remember correctly. We make the last provisions before the visitors and potential buyers were entering the hall. I also had time to visit Carsten Oettlers stall! Carsten has a matchbox store in Berlin and runs an online shop (http://www.cars-and-boxes.de/public/sta ... ?suid=3977, too.
Make sure you visit him when you are around Berlin. For our smartphone-junkies: he also has an App, just type Cars and Boxes in your playstore and Bob's your uncle!
Anyay I had all the time in the world to go through his Boxes full of RW, SF and more...and found some goodies!
At 10:00 the doors opened and we had many matchbox interested visitors and our matchbox stall. It was fun talking about a lot of models and variations, helping people with the typical "I had this as a kid" problem and selling models. A few vistors brought some items for taking a look at them, e.g. SF Ford Zodiac in RW colour, Gift Sets...etc.
It never got boring as there was so much matchbox stuff to look at and so many topics you could talk about!
The fair closed at 18:00 and afterwards we met again in the hotel for dinner. Kay and me left the hotel a bit earlier to meet Carsten Oettler and his two mates for playing pool billard. It was 5 years ago when I played billard the last time and it was real fun. Carsten is more professional as he plays two times a week regular but he was kind enough giving me some tips!
It was 23:30 when Kay and me arrived at our hotel and after we were going through our finds it was 01:00. A bit late for me for posting here, sorry!
Saturday starts as Friday did, with breakfast for Kay and without breakfast for me! The fair opened again at 10:00 and we had many visitors, too. Kay and me planned to leave Leipzig on saturday, so we pack up our models and everything else at 17:00 and started our return journey at 18:30. Of course we had to make a stop at mcdonald's!
It was round about 22:30/23:00 when I was home and Kay had good 40 minutes more to drive.
It was an awesome trip and I will do this next year, too. I couldn't imagine a better companion (or the other way round, haha) than Kay! He has so much knowledge and is a pleasant and friendly guy in every situation. I enjoyed his reports from his USA travels (albuquerque, hershey...). Thanks again Kay!
I will upload pics of the fair and my finds, soon!
Thanks for reading and posting here!
