Up until 2006 when my Uncle died, Four of us went into a shed every Friday evening for some racing and each of us had a Secret weapon which was a slot car we had been working on during the Week in Secret, that was either a super fast race car or a car with working features.

I had a super smooth running Mercedes-Benz 190 'Cosworth' on which I had added working front and rear lights, working brake lights and a working Turbo. The electrical system we was using already had effective braking for the cars, so all in all I had a fabulous model for using on the track!

Watching that video of the 'Italian Job' models has reminded me I have a recovery truck in the process of being converted to run on the track with a working winch and lifting arms, hazard warning lights and flashing roof beacons.

One of the hardest things to achieve with slot cars is to make a vehicle move slowly, not the intention of slot car system manufactures, because the idea is to go fast!!

Cars can move off from standstill quite slowly but if you keep the hand throttle trigger in one place to keep the car slow, it will get very hot!

Thank's Reg for finding that, great fun I can assure you all!

First of all, this video is really fantastic, what an idea this Italian Job make over.

I have been a slot racing enthusiast and competitor since the days of my secundairy school up to 2001, some 35 years in total.
I still visit some clubs to see what is going on.

Dutch championships runner up in 1979, 1980 and 1981. European championship: 8th in 1981.
After taking a break of 4 years I started a 1/24 classic slot racing championship with a friend of mine, which was succesful for 11 years.
I still have some pictures of cars I built for the classics.
