Matchbox Display

Post by hydra427 »

Found this display at a resale shop. Unfortunately it is not for sale at the present time. I am first in line when it becomes available which could be soon. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one. It is not mint but I would still give it a 8/10. The front "Matchbox" sign is in perfect condition and the motor is still working properly. It is missing a shelve or two but I think I can find replacements. The round display shelves are in decent shape but I might try to find someone to make new ones if I get the unit. It would be a nice addition to my growing collection. I would keep all the original materials but these vacuum formed parts become so brittle over time. It could use some new Plexiglas as well but it will all boil down to weather or not I get it.

Fingers crossed for you John. That's a big beast and it'll look great loaded up with your own models.

It appears to be this one form the 1966 trade catalogue.

That example in the catalogue doesn't have the circular rotating shelves Kevin, although it is very similar.

Well spotted Alex. It will be this one then, 1968.

Ghosthunter, yes that is the display in question. I was hoping the seller had no clue and would sell it for a couple of hundred but I was wrong!

Good reference Kevin, both very rare Canadian displays.
I missed the earlier posted one by you at Vectis not long ago.
Would have loved both displays for my display collection.
