My Precious!

Post by Idris »

Very simple concept: one post/Member and simply show us the one model in your collection which you prize above all others (and please, no fudging the issue by showing two or three models and claiming you can't decide!).

If it is, don't you go showing any 'Pre-Pro' Y-6 'Fire Engines', that's not fair!!

My idea is anything which could legitimately be posted on VBD.

The one on the left !! My absolute favorite casting, and this one was mine from new. All that damage was done by yours truly! I wouldn't give this one up for anything. If I sold off everything, this one would stay. She sits next to a much nicer example! I believe I picked up the nice one from Tinman a few years back. I have more variations of this casting than any other. This probably isn't quite what you were expecting! But this one truly means more to me than any. :D

I would be expecting to see a few beaters from members childhoods. If I still had my childhood collection they would all be so precious to me. Unfortunately my mum gave my entire collection away when I was a teenager and more interested in beer and girls!!!

This is what I call "My Precious" - it is a vinyl Volkswagen Police car made by "Tomte Toys" of Norway between 1963 and 1973.

When I was a young boy back in the mid 60's, I used to play in my sandbox in the backyard of my parent's house.
I loved building sand mountains, with streets and tunnels, and a lot of toy cars were intensively used in my "sandy desert"
When my childhood was over, the sandbox was removed, and the place was integrated into my parent's garden.

One day in the mid 90's, my father started digging around where my sandbox used to be, as he wanted to plant some new plants and bushes.
There he found back my old little vinyl toy car......

As you can see, there is a long crack at the side of the car, and it still has some sand around the rusty axle ends.
Even if it would be in unused condition it would not be worth a fortune.

But to me it is invaluable, as it is a reminder to my great childhood - it really is "My Precious"!!

Finally obtained 12 years later in a Vectis sale. Had been on my "most wanted" list since that first sighting. Really chuffed to get it.

It's really hard to pick just one
