All is not what it seems!

Post by GHOSTHUNTER »

I saw this Blue #69 Rolls-Royce drop-top and was checking to see if it had the 'Long Seat' moulding, but the baseplate colour diverted my thoughts...light Tan base on a Blue model, that ain't right!

Light Tan baseplate here don't you think!

If this is genuine, then we have discovered a previously unrecorded base colour for Blue models. Checked out the other pictures and the model seemed to be in pretty good condition and it was a 'Buy it Now', even better!

I went back to to the base picture to study the rivet and for the period of this model's production, the rivet looked perfect, becoming more excited now!

Went backwards and forward across the pictures to satisfy myself everything I could see looked and felt right, then it hit me...of the thumbnail pictures supplied to help sell this model, Two of them the material the model was resting on was a distinctively different shade to the other thumbnail pictures.

Now things started to be come clear or they would when I had done some trickery on the pictures...

All is revealed...

I tried to colour match the Blue carpet (or whatever it is), in both pictures and the colour of the baseplate became Yellow and so it turns out the model is not a new variation, it was being wrongly represented by incorrectly coloured pictures.

It is still a nice model as a premium is placed on these with the rich Yellow baseplate and for the £20 or so total, will make a nice addition to someone's collection, not mine because I already have this version.

It just shows you that not all what you see on ebay is correct.

That's a shame Ghosty, I bet you're heart was racing. Unfortunately this sort of thing happens quite often and it's more difficult if there is only one photo to go by. Occasionally it can help if the seller has other models listed where the colours can be checked.

It reminds me that once I saw a Silver Shadow coupe on ebay. Photos form the seller showed this special interior colour. But it turned out to be the normal orange-red.

Since the photographs form part of the listing, if they are misleading then the model is incorrectly described and you can demand a return and a refund.
