K4C Leyland Tipper Released 1969 All England castings.

Cab: lime green, light red, red, dark red, light orange, orange, dark orange, light blue.
Tipper: lime green. light green or silver.
Base: silver, light metallic green, metallic green.
Body: 2 types found. with or without cast block on the rear.
Grill & front bumper: silver, light metallic green, metallic green.
Windows: clear or amber.
Wheels: Black plastic, small or large 5 spokes wheels.
Tailgate has K4 on one side & either 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 7. Can be installed in reverse.
Labels: LE transport or W.Wates.

PS: There are more packed away especially the MX series sets, unfortunately I cannot get to them yet.

Charlie, I do not collect RW KingSize and, if anything, have even less interest in SpeedKings/SuperKings/SF KingSize. Having said that, I find the photographs of your collection absolutely stunning and can see why you concentrate on these large models since en masse they are most impressive.

Totally agree and I defy anybody to come forward with a better collection from these ranges of models. Can't wait to see what Rolls-Royce versions Charlie has collected.

I also collect these K4 Leylands. I have them all the usual ones plus the Waites promotional in all over Lime Green (I paid £10 for it unboxed but VNM ) and the silver bodied Speed King version.
I lump them together with the re-tooled K37 of which there were just the two basic colours.
Just to add, that the MX version that you have with red or blue carbuncles and fittings, there were a few rare examples released with dark blue / mauve protuberences. I missed out on one a couple of years ago.
Lots of rare oddities and pre-pro's crop up if you are lucky enough to come across them. Clear windows, wrong labels, odd wheels, etc.

Thanks all of you for the kind comments and the additional pictures posted. Yes, there are quite a few variations out there and I am sure I have more packed away especially the ones based on the MX series. When it comes to the kingsize ranges, no one really knows what is out there. I guess that is one reason why I find collecting them so interesting. This is the only matchbox range that I am aware of that don't have a dedicated publication perhaps because not too many collect them. Just like Idris wrote "en masse they are most impressive".

I don't think Lesney considered the 'Kingsize' range as one of their main product lines. In terms of the number of subjects added to the range it could never compete with the 'Yesteryears' or '1-75 series' so even when new in shops, there were fewer models around, so fewer examples purchased and when the commercials were played with alongside the Corgi and Dinky commercials (compare the Leyland Tipper with the Dinky AEC Tipper and you'll see what I mean), they stood out as being that much smaller.

I am not aware of any published books on 'Kingsize' models so what appears in these posts by Charlie is the next best thing.

As a BIG fan of the King Size range I was very impressed with your collection. Specially the three "Lime Green" promotional issue of the Wates Tipper. Those have escaped for now. lol
