In pedantic mode.... you could have a minimum of 1 model so, in terms of Kevin's description, I beg to differ...
1. a Regular Wheel version in it's specified colours
2. the Superfast version in new colours
3. a Regular Wheel version with the Superfast colours
4. the Superfast version in the old colours.

Hello Roland, to my way of collecting a transitional is when the Superfast model is the same colour as the Regular wheel model.

Here is a few models to show this way I collect I have nearly all of them.

The only problem with them is as usual - so many models, so less display room

This applies to any brand name really.

Apart from that, for any English word derived from Latin you are generally free to either use the Latin plural or the English plural. For some words the former is more common, for others the latter, but both are OK.

Only if you decide to use the Latin plural, you have to make sure to use the correct Latin plural, which is easier to do if you have learned Latin and know which declension the word in question belongs to.

The declension does not depend on a word's ending alone. For example, words ending in "-us" can be "O" declension (e.g. "lotus" - correct Latin plural "loti"), "U" declension (e.g. "status" - correct Latin plural "status") or consonant declension (e.g. "prius" - correct Latin plural "priora").

Rule of thumb: if you are unsure, avoid the Latin plural and use the English plural instead, which for words ending in "-us" usually means appending "-es".

This debate surfaces semi-regularly and is never satisfactorily resolved. There is no definitive definition (ha!) of transitional, so I've always felt it is up to the individual collector to decide for themselves - the only problem of course being that one collector's transitional is something different to another. So I just think that a very loose definition is the only way to go. Although a number of posters here have already given very narrow and specific definitions, I believe that broadly speaking, most collectors are referring to models issued in both RW and SF ranges when using the term transitional. Then even that is too broad for some, and too narrow for others...
