The Great Fire.

Post by matchboxkiwi »

I remember talking to some Yesteryear nuts at the Windsor swap meet many years ago now and they were talking about the great fire. I'd remembered learning about the great fire at school back in New Zealand and thought good they are talking about something I know about as I knew nothing about Yesteryears because I'd never collected them. I still don't, although I've got a hundred or so of them!!
Anyway as the conversation went on I found out that the great fire wasn't in London but in the Lesney Yesteryear factory!! I'm going to have to correct those history books at school so future generations of kiwi kids can get the facts right.

Going through some of my price lists I found some pricing gaps for the Yesteryears so guess this must have been when the fire was.

Price lists either side of these two issues have prices in.

The initial problems at Lesney in 1973, were based around the fact the UK was working to a 3 Day Week, an internal strike within the fettling department and the indignity of suffering a Fire and a flood in the Rochford factory!

The Fire caused the loss of plastic components for the 'Yesteryear' models and the flood damaged machinery.
