So I came home and did the same comparison and low and behold Ghosty is correct. The red hub 41c are facing the same way in that both large 'Bosses' are on the same side of the car, and the yellow are opposite. Interesting.

So, excuse perhaps a silly question but which model was fitted with the red hubs as standard? All the models I have seen with red hubs seem to fetch a premium.

Each rule has its exceptions :D . One of my models with yellow hubs has the small bosses on that same side as the models with red hubs.

I have two models with the Red Wheels (Hubs) one with 11.5 x 72 Treads and the other has 11.5 x 45 Tread, and the bigger dome heads are on the same side.

But my other 5 Yellow wheels are all each back and front axles.

The red hubs were fitted on the 41b Jaguar for a short time then carried over to the 41c Ford GT-40 for a brief time. Because of the short run on both models they carry a premium value. I actually love the way they look too! :)

Man is there a lot of beautiful red wheeled 41C Ford GT's out there. Are there any numbers anywhere that show approximate production numbers on models?

Hi John.

I think it would be correct to say NO, there are no production numbers of models, of this type, from this period and it is because of this that makes our hobby so interesting.

I have not seen anything in print relating to production numbers and believe me, I would be first in the que to get hold of any!

By the very nature of the production methods at Lesney, it would have been very dificult to record what was being made, especially when stocks of components ran out and alternatives were used (as in the Red whels above), to complete a production run, and its in recent times (1980's-90's), that some sort of attempt to record numbers of models made (connected to 'Limited Editon' issues within the 'Yesteryears' range), that we can say YES,

Very nice selection of models, the red hubbed GT is one on my wish list.

Does anyone know why the red hubs were introduced on these 2 models? Or who made the decision?
I looked in the "First Forty Years" book and it just says " a very short final run ……"

Have this idea in my head of the factory floor and someone looking at the finished bodies and saying
"Have we got any more yellow hubs for these?"

A voice drifts down from the office above ..
"No, just put on those the red hubs we've got in the bin over there."

Pretty accurate description Roger.

That 'Someone' would have been the 'Chargehand' and he would have gone to the stores first to get more Yellow wheels and if there were none left, he would have then gone to the office to ask for permission to either stop the production run short or find another wheel that would fit to finish the run and on the evidence of so many models in the collector's community that fall into this un-common components category, it was the latter that seemed more preferable.
