Re: Censored posts
Why do the Home nations have separate teams in so many sports (e.g. football, rugby, cricket)? Surely it means that the available talent is split four ways. A single UK team would therefore be better and more successful. (Look at the London Olympics as a case in point.)

Clearly you have not been following UK politics and the infamous BREXIT!Idris wrote:Why do the Home nations have separate teams in so many sports (e.g. football, rugby, cricket)? Interesting Hugh, just one problem competitors from Scotland, Wales and Ireland would never get picked therefore by default the British team would be referred to as Team England.Idris wrote:Why do the Home nations have separate teams in so many sports (e.g. football, rugby, cricket)? I think Bale would be a definitive choice along with a couple of Scots.
The reason each of the home nations has it own representative is because each has its own association and as such each are qualified for selection.

I Know very little about sports but I often wondered why we never had a UK team. Georgie Best was undoubtedly one of the all time greats but he was wasted playing for Ireland and with George playing for a UK team we would have been unbeatable and the supporters would have been united as one.
Apologies to the Irish and certainly no offence was intended. What is it they say, united we stand, divided we fall.

Same as NIck, not into sport but surely they play for their country of birth. The idea of a UK team should be possible as most football teams now have players from any country included so why not a 'UK' team made up from the best available in the country.
Re: Censored posts
As mentioned before the national teams are from the relevant football associations. As there is no "United Kingdom Football Association " there cannot be an UK football team.Moyboy wrote:Same as NIck, not into sport but surely they play for their country of birth. The English Football Association fields a team as do the Northern Ireland, Scottish and Welsh Associations plus all the rest in the World.
