Wrapping paper?

Just wonder if Lesney in the 70s, in any country, ever used any sort of wrapping paper for the model inside the box?

Hi Ritchie.

I am not aware of it happening and if the example shown in your picture is the reason for the question, you should look really close at the inside of the box surface to see if there is any paint rub in matching colours to the model. This is usually where high points of the model have been rubbing against the box leaving evidence the model belongs in that box, so therefore no wrapping.

I think I can say with certainty that Matchbox never wrapped their toys in tissue paper. They were after all only making a cheap toy and quite often the packaging never lasted more than a couple of minutes once it left the toyshop.

I can't recall any models which were wrapped like that. It's the wrong era, but the nearest I can come up with is the paper bags which were a cheap option used to keep the roadsigns from rattling around in their boxes.

Models were NEVER wrapped.
This was later done to protect your model.

Matchbox never wrapped these 1:64 models in paper. There have been several larger models wrapped in this type of paper most commonly Matchbox Collectibles models.
