The buyers helper club

Post by Miller »

A few minutes ago i received a message from Ghosthunter, where he asked me to assist with a sale on ebay.de, because the seller refused to ship outside of Germany.

If anyone here needs help with a purchase from Germany, i will be happy to assist as a relais station or i can help with translations.

Thinking about this i got the idea to establish a list of such relais stations all over the world. Everyone who is willing to help out other members should post in a yet to be created thread and explain, which help he can provide.

I often avoid buying in GB due to their enormous shipping costs. IDK, if shpping inside the UK ist much cheaper, but i guess, i will be cheaper to ship 5 items to a UK member and have them then shipped to Germany.

How about postage in the USA? If i buy something in NY and another thing in Seattle, will there be differences in postage to Germany?

Lets discuss this and create a members network

Thank you Roland for your offer and opening this thread is a good idea. I will ask "Kay', my First contact to join in, as he did say he has helped another forum member with this very subject of sellers not willing to post outside their native Country.

Please forum members can I encourage you to think about Roland's 'Buyers Helper Club' and if you can offer a postal address for forum members to use, do please put your name here.

Of course no one is obliged to show his adress here in public!

I think, your nickname and the town(area/country) you live in should be enough.

Correct, no personal details on the forum please, that's why we have a 'Private Message' system in use.

Please note that this idea was floated on Lefora, but ended up stillborn owing to a very small number of Members raising vociferous concerns about non-payment and non-arrival disputes. As such, I would like to point out that any arrangements made are solely on a private Member-to-Member basis and that VBD accepts no liability whatsoever should such an arrangement turn sour.
Having said all that, I have always thought that this was an excellent idea and felt that the harbingers of doom were being unduly negative. This is exactly the kind of thing a Forum such as VBD should be used for. Thank you everyone who has volunteered to assist their fellow collectors.

I would like to point out that this would probably not save on postage costs. Postage inside Germany and then the onward postage to were ever would be greater than the direct way.
To solve the problem of "only posts to Germany" for example I am always ready to help.

You are right, Rod! A single piece from Germany will be more expensive due to two shipping rates. But buying 5 items and having them shipped to the UK from one german member might save a lot!

If 10 buy 5 items we could personally deliver! Then we could visit a couple of swap meets and I could enjoy a breakfast of bacon and eggs and you could try the kippers!
