Excellent find Jason. These off White seat versions are very thin on the ground and minty versions can fetch good Money, a great addition to your collection, looks to be in pretty good condition but I can see a bit of tyre to wheel rim reaction, so If it were mine, I would remove the tyres before any long term storage, just to halt the process getting worse.

Many thanks for the comments, I feel the model looks good with this interior wonder why they changed it to red.
I will take the tyres off for now Ghosty, do you know how to stop it. seems strange it only happens on some models. J

Hi Jason.

You can not stop it once its started, only prevent it from getting worse by not letting anything come into contact with the offending material, so keeping the tyres away from the rims will do it.

The tyres on these are as near as damn it the exact same size as the true rubber tyres on 1960's Corgi cars, so you could fit a set of those and keep the original in a small paper bag inside the model's box if you have it. Having said that, we know rubber perishes and can shed it's oils (Scalextric tyres are famous for this!), and go very hard, so its the lesser of Two evils I suppose!!

No way to stop it. (It's chemistry!) I firmly believe that t's caused by plasticiser leaching out of the malleable tyre and softening the otherwise hard plastic hub. You therefore need to clean the hub thoroughly once the offending tyre has been removed, otherwise cold flow ("melting") will continue.
My guess is that whether or not melting occurs is a function of i) tyre composition (not all batches will be identical), ii) time/temperature history of the model (being hotter for longer will result in higher release rates of plasticiser), and iii) hub hardness (not all batches will be identical).

That K21 Cougar is a great find - agree with other comments that looks so much better with white seats.
You certainly have the knack for finding these rare ones, though I suspect it is more down to spending a lot of time online :D
