#20 vw ambulance

Post by fixer »

Based on the #15 micro bus this has a blue beacon and the interior has a bench along one side instead of the rows of seats in the microbus
This is also available in the Politie livery

Here is a nice advert from 1967 proclaiming the Volkswagen Ambulance as the first new model in 1967.

The illustration in a 1968 catalogue (below), shows the colour to be very dark. It is not possible to know what colour the original artwork or photograph was, but once you have released an Ambulance, chances are it will mostly appear in White or shades of, so I wonder what was going on here... :D

Just for the record, only when this model was converted to a 'FLYERS' version did it have a Red cross label applied to the rear side door, so labels are not missing from the example shown in the above pictures.

Thank's Reg, you could be right and no I had not noticed the interior, good point, seems strange putting this in the catalogue because there is no known record of the 'POLITIE' version being sold in the UK.

A newly arrived model this one is an earlier version with knobbly tyres and beige interior , only thing of notice is the faulty rivit which has been mostly sun off, there is another one like it in the microbus thread. There is no reason to suspect any wrong doing on either model, just an over enthusiastic operator

I agree Reg, a badly spun down rivet

Ambulance toys and models suffer from the same limitation as Fire Engines, not many colours available, unless you can sell your toys in all civilised Countries... :D
