There are many more brands in my collection. The total is just over 180,000 pieces so this is actually pretty close to 5%. About 5% are unpackaged and the rest is mint in packaging. Matchbox makes up almost a third of my collection with Hot Wheels close behind. Dinky and Corgi are also well represented as well as many others. What can I say other than I am an addict. LOL. It really is a like opening up a time capsule.johnboy wrote:Fantastic toy room, but 5% Jim! Jim, how have you kept track of your total count across the years with so much of the collection out of sight? Is the 180,000+ an estimate or do you actually have things somehow cataloged/documented?

If Jim ever got the idea to show us his whole collection, Nick would have to ask for more server space
Phantastic, Jim!

Jim, given you have probably one of the biggest private collections of Matchbox models that we have seen on the forum i would be very interested to know the following:
Firstly, with regards your Matchbox collection what model you consider your most coveted in your collection and why?
Secondly, what Matchbox model/variation are you still hunting for to add to your collection that has so far eluded you?
And lastly, what is your most favourite Matchbox model,....you know, that one model that you would need to have on that desert island if you ever ended up there?

These are tough questions.
Firstly, with regards your Matchbox collection what model you consider your most coveted in your collection and why?
This is an easy one. My 2 favorite are pretty common. MB41 Ford GT. and MB66 Greyhound Bus. I played more with these 2 as a child and they have always been my favorites.
Secondly, what Matchbox model/variation are you still hunting for to add to your collection that has so far eluded you?
MB04 Copper Triumph.
And lastly, what is your most favourite Matchbox model,....you know, that one model that you would need to have on that desert island if you ever ended up there?

Re: Continuing to get my toy room set up
I have tracked the Matchbox and the Hot Wheels. Most others are a conservative estimate. 180,000 is very close when all brands are counted. I wished I had tracked the other brands as well. I wish I had a place to display it all but that will never happen I am sure. I hope to display what I can and rotate other models in and out as time and patience permits.matchbox_n_molars wrote:Jim, how have you kept track of your total count across the years with so much of the collection out of sight? Jim,
Looks like you continue to make progress in displaying so many beautiful models and associated items! Looking good.
180,000 models -- WOW! Perhaps there is a viable "retirement" project for you: Open up the "Route 66" Diecast MUSEUM in Albuquerque, New Mexico!! Then, you can share many of those models with the rest of the world.............................

Yes, Vicki retired in 2014 and has started sorting our antique toy collection last fall. She has gone through about 120 boxes but has over 1,000 to go. Next maybe I can get her to help with the diecast….. Don't tell her I volunteered her. LOL.durangokid wrote:Jim,
