Matchbox store dispaly
Matchbox store dispaly
Hi I am new to this site. I am trying to find an accurate picture of a 1958 Matchbox store display with the marquee with cars 1-55 and A-1 and A-2. This for a restoration of a display missing the marquee.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Re: Matchbox store dispaly
There is a catalogue web site that shows the early trade sheets from this period and has the display you are after pictured on it.
It's a Dutch web site. Matchboxmarcel will know what it's called. I can't remember the name.
Someone bought it up recently in a catalogue thread so have a look in the active topics.
Cheers Steve

I appreciate the prompt replies. I did not find what I need but enjoyed the sites. If anyone has a similar display I am searching for a high resolution scan or copy of the marquee to help with the restoration.
Thanks,
Marc.
Thanks,
Marc.

Posting a photograph of what you have will assist other collectors in identifying the stand you have.Marc116 wrote:Hi I am new to this site. Do we think this thread should be in the catalogues and general ephemera section.

Sorry Mark to make you less enthousiastic. Many people ask for high resolution pictures of all sides and angles of stands and afterwards I see copies on Ebay at very high price.
So allthough you may have different plans I can't help with your question. To many fakes and very difficult to see the differences if you do not know what to look for. Even the former MICA club is producing fakes nowerdays and sell these at high prices.
As a display collector myself I can understand people would like a display but why buying a fake ?

I have the same 1958 Display, also with it's header completely missing from it Marc116. I do have a catalogue that shows a rather small picture of what both you and I are now seeking to find, and it is very similar to the 1961 style with the 6A coming out of it's Box on the top. Because our displays are the same, we may be able to team up on 'Restoring' ours, and not creating fakes as Marcel fears. I understand your thoughts and concerns Marcel, but Marc116 and I both have damaged very rare originals we are looking to upgrade, not copy and market. I had seen your display in New Jersey 2 years ago in person Marc, and even met the owner who had found it in an old Hardware Store where it had been stored for over 40 years. He had contacted this Forum with details of his plan to auction that display, so his Posts may still be found by searching this site. PM me for more info Marc. It is a VERY, VERY small collector world around here.....kwakers
