10c Foden Sugar Container Truck Colours
10c Foden Sugar Container Truck Colours
Those of you with long memories will remember that my favourite 1-75 is the 10c Foden Sugar Container Truck. As a result, I seem to have ended up with rather a lot of them, and this has enabled me to determine that there are at least three different blues.
One of them is slightly paler than the normal blue, whilst the other (which I am struggling to describe adequately) has a slightly dirty appearance, with grey/green overtones making it vaguely reminiscent of RAF blue and of diesel.
Although clearly different in natural light, the colours are very difficult to photograph. However, I have the following snaps. The photograph with two models shows the lighter and darker shades of blue, whilst the photograph with three models shows two normal blues and a darker grey/green example.
As if that weren’t enough, one of the pocket catalogues illustrates a very dark blue example. (I’ll try to remember to post the illustration tonight.). However, my guess is that it is probably simply artistic licence.
Can anyone else confirm the dirty blue colour of which I only have a single example?

Re: 10c Foden Sugar Container Truck Colours
I've checked mine but can't help I'm afraid. I've sometimes found that the standard darker blue colour has a strange quality to it, it's not always clean and consistent and can have darker undertones in certain light.

It is very hard to see the shade differences in the images Hugh. I am trying to view them on my phone which doesn't help to be fair.

On my Macbook Pro, the model on the left is definitely in a darker Blue.

Anotonin has previously shown a paler 10c here.

I have a rather famously short memory Hugh, and I'm curious how and why it is that the Foden Sugar truck came to be your favorite.Idris wrote:Those of you with long memories will remember that my favourite 1-75 is the 10c Foden Sugar Container Truck.

First of all, it's a lovely model, with its rich, blue paintwork and the brightly-coloured decals covering the majority of the visible surfaces, second, it looks big and powerful, with its four axles, third, the artwork on the D box is a joy to behold, and last but not least, I remember being bought one by my parents in Cardiff (after a ride on a trolleybus!) and I can still see the display it came from, in a big department store, in my mind's eye.matchbox_n_molars wrote:I have a rather famously short memory Hugh, and I'm curious how and why it is that the Foden Sugar truck came to be your favorite.Idris wrote:Those of you with long memories will remember that my favourite 1-75 is the 10c Foden Sugar Container Truck.

Great memories to have. The '64 guide picture looks a lot like a 73a Pressure Refueler.
