Thanks for the above Kevin, but I thought the whole point of this thread raised by Hugh was to consider if RW colours were continued onto SF baseplates?
We seem to be moving away from the intended discussion??
Superfast baseplate colours v RW & YY

Re: Superfast baseplate colours v RW
Here is the Silver Shadow and 1912 Rolls-Royce.
No match here but some later Y-7 examples are darker, but to me the Silver Shadow base has more of a Blue tint to it.

Re: Superfast baseplate colours v RW
This is a good point raised by Johnny as the YYs were around before the SF and some of the base colours on the SF could well be paint used on YYs. Also some YYs and RW could share the same paint before SF were introduced.Johnny Pimp wrote:Are we absolutely sure that these are exclusively RW colours?
They look very much like MoY colours from 69/70ish.
A few examples: -
Y-2 Renault = 52 Dodge green metallic
Y-1 Ford Model T = 52 Dodge red
Y-3 1910 Benz = 24 Rolls-Royce green metallic / 32 Maserati Bora lime
Y-14 Maxwell = 41 Ford GT light aqua green
Y-7 Rolls-Royce = 24 Rolls-Royce silver-grey
Y-16 Spyker = 50 Kennel Truck / 69 Rolls-Royce dark and light yellows
While I'm at it, what about these model colours?
Y-6 Renault = 12 Land Rover / Setra dark and light golds
Y-10 1906 Rolls-Royce = 42 Iron Fairy Crane lime boom
Quite a few more that I can't recall right now.
I will amend the title thread to include YYs so we can ultimately see which paint was used for all 3 groups...SF, RW & YYs, and hopefully give us a better understanding of how the paint was used overall.
Re: Superfast baseplate colours v RW
That was indeed what I originally proposed since that was the rumour. However, those YY proposals look very convincing, so it now looks like we should include all pre-1970 ranges in our discussions.motorman wrote:Thanks for the above Kevin, but I thought the whole point of this thread raised by Hugh was to consider if RW colours were continued onto SF baseplates?

Re: Superfast baseplate colours v RW
But wouldn't it make more sense then to show a baseplate and also make a suggestion to which RW this colour could be matched? Instead of just showing some random baseplates?motorman wrote:Thanks for the above Kevin, but I thought the whole point of this thread raised by Hugh was to consider if RW colours were continued onto SF baseplates?

My suggestion for the metallic green Clipper base: the Battle Kings Chieftain tank (again no RW, I know).

Yes, that is the aim, to show a SF base colour and then for someone to quote that post with a photo of what they consider to be the same paint used on another model, e.g. RW, YY or even a Battleking as shown, then we can all debate it and go from there, thanks for post.
