New to the Forum ....

Post by Thumper »

I joined a little while ago, but haven't posted yet - sorry about that.

My involvement in diecast collecting stems from a personal interest (mainly Dinky, but with a few others that comply with my strict "Le Mans & Sportscars" criteria) and also because I help out a mate of mine with the toyfairs he organises in Cirencester and Didcot. I created a website for him, and now assist with regular promotion; contacting the local papers and radio stations, and updating the hundreds of on-line events guides and listings. It's a mammoth task, but someone's got to do it.

Once in a while I hope I'll be allowed to post a reminder that we've got a fair coming along (which I'll probably do after I've finished this), and if anything rare or unusual comes our way, I'll try to post photos and descriptions.

Welcome to the forum Thumper. I have already seen your post in the toy fair section so yes, do please advertise toy fairs in there. It would also be nice to see some pictures of what you collect or are deeply interested-in regards model cars.

Thanks for the welcome Ghosthunter.

Most of my collection is motorsport-related. For some time, back in the 1990s and early thousands I worked freelance for Scalextric and a number of other slot-car manufacturers, supplying reference photography and reasearch for new models, and as a result have a large collection of models from that era. I also did a modest amount for some diecast manufacturers as well, mostly continental, and larger scale. I'll see what photos I can rustle together!

Please do create a Scalextric thread in the Lounge for those members who are into these, such as myself, I would love to read stories of your involvement with those models and do show some pictures of any rare Scalextric (or other brands), you may have.

Any Scalextric Bugatti that comes up for sale is an occasion to rave about for slot car enthusiasts. As the description mentions there are other factory produced versions (re-issues based on an original model), so to see an original issue for sale is very rare indeed.

On the back of this, would members like a Scalextric section, then I could bring some more details of Bugatti models to the forum.

Never seen one of those Scalextric Bugattis, but that's an awful lot of money!

The Scalextric Bugatti has become the most famous and talked about slot-car of all time. Introduced in 1963 on catalogue number C70, the model was based on a Bugatti type 59 and it was moulded in medium Blue plastic of a type that could withstand minor crashes on the track.

While the model was shown in the catalogues, there is doubt about the model ever appearing in retail shops and those that did get into owner's hands were separately posted by the factory at Margate in Kent.

There has not to my knowledge ever been a definitive answer as to why this model was not put into full production and figures of existing examples being as low as 25 by the foremost expert in Scalextric, but nearer to 100 by the National Scalextric Collectors Club.

I have not been a member of the NSCC for quite a number of Years now, so have lost touch with the collector friends I had, so I have not been aware of any new information that may have surfaced in recent times about the Bugatti model.
