I would now expect to see the number '1' or even '0' on another 'pre-pro' model of 69c, but sadly, I don't personally have any of these :cry:

Sorry Ghosty if this has been mentioned already, but I've noticed a difference to the hinge brace on the underside of the boot lid, one is narrow and one is wide.

Hello Johnboy,

There are five boots with four hinge designs used across models #24c and #69c.

All regular wheeled 24c Silver Shadows have narrow-curved hinge arms and when 69c came along, it used the same boot casting with the same hinge arms.
During the production of the 'Superfast' version of 24c, the hinge arms were modified to include a heavier profile, right on the radius, (look at the model from the side to see this, with the boot open). When these hinge arms were made wider, the componenet was naturally used on both models, so you will see different hinge arm designs on both models.

I don't have my details for when all this took place during production, at hand, but I will highlight this in a further posting for you.

I expect while I am away getting that information, SMS88 and/or chfalkesteiner will come in with more details and pictures... :)

Look at the mould numbers and expect differences between different numbers like #2 & #3 shown here by johnboy

Here you can see the five boot types with the four hinge arm designs. The first type was not used on the #69c, it had already been modified into the type 2, being used on #24c during the 'Superfast' conversion. Two types of the 'wide' arms exist, the fourth type down is clearly just the 'narrow' arms with additional casting added to make them stronger, the last type at the bottom, has been deliberately designed as a 'wide' type and looking at the arms from the rear of the car, you will see that they are more evenly designed, not as angled as the type before it.

All my blue #69c models have hinge arms that match the third type on my illustration. They are of the 'narrow' design, but with extra metal behind the sharp curve, missing on the first two types.

My narrow 'Superfast' gold model with small wheel-arches has the same type three hinge arms, then the first gold models with wide 'Superfast' wheels, but still with small wheel-arches, has the same type three hinge arms, then the gold model with large wheel-arches has the type three hinge arms, then the type four hinge arms, right into the lime-gold models.

I have not seen the angled 'wide' hinge arms, (second from last down on my illustration), on gold or lime-gold models, suggesting I need to get more of these models than I do own, or, the angled 'wide' arms were quickly replaced by the more level arms, (the last type on my illustration).

Sorry for the small illustration, it dates from 1986 and comes from a small booklet I used to take to toy fairs, to help identify the different boot and hinge arm designs, I will have to do a bigger version.

Here are Jonboy's boot's, the boot design 2, on the right, is common on all blue #69c models and the first gold models, into the fitment of the 'wide' 'Superfast' wheels. The 'wide' hinge arms on the gold model on the left, are of the angled design and the illustration of this type is assuming you are looking directly at the back of the car with the boot fully open, with the tool number '2' at top right and the large circle at top centre, much as you see it in Johnboy's image.

Thanks for the detailed info Ghosty, very useful. You must be careful that you don't get addicted to these Rollers, it can interfere with your social life :D

Oh! I don't know, I find that I can eat my bread ROLLS with no problem and I still enjoy my ROYCE pudding for afters, then I'll have a quick shave with my antique, but still sharp ROLLS Razor and pop down to the shops to look at some new ROLLER blinds for the kitchen, so, you see I am far from letting it affect my social life.
