Japanese Black Box Set 1-9

Post by jimgallegos »

These are pretty tough to find the whole set. The Lotus and the VW are my favorites in the set. The Lamborghini is right up there too.

They look great on display Jim in these Japanese issue boxes. As Dave comments, there are a few individual variations also worth looking out for like the #14 Iso Grifo with 10 dot/dash wheels and the #5 Lotus Europa without the JPS print and with dot/dash wheels.

The Lotus Alex mentions is very hard to find and a great looking piece.

I agree Rob it certainly took me a while to find one for my collection.
Another one that is tough to find Is the #33 Muira with DD wheels and black base I was chuffed to get my hands on this example below.

Yes Alex, that dot dash 33 Muira with black base is very hard to find and looks great with the black grille showing, here is the 14 Iso you mentioned with dot dash wheels, also very hard to find.

Great photo, Jim. I have and love this set. Does your JPS Lotus have tacky black paint like mine does?

I do have several other variations as well. Either of my black JPS model does not have tacky paint fortunately.

Over the years I have seen examples of various Black JPS Lotus in both boxes and TPs. Regardless of being in a box or TP some have had tacky paint finishes and others have been fine. I also have an example shown below that has neither tacky or perfect paintwork but a rough matt finish. The different finishes could well be due to something in the paint or paint application process, possibly enhanced over time by environmental situations, because the other model in the TP has always been fine.
