corgi 426 Booking office
Re: corgi 426 Booking office
i did wonder last night whilst intently studying it . Model seems pretty genuine and pretty good condition apart from the colours and did wonder wether the problem was colour drain by intense sunlight ,wouldnt that be just one side or end though ? How would the sun reach all parts ? It just doesnt appear to have been repainted .With info so widespread and freely available now with the internet i would have expected to find some info re the red on Corgi models turning to brown in the sun . How would the faded condition affect value not forgetting i only paid £20 from ebay including p&p .
Re: corgi 426 Booking office
Sunfade is very odd. Sometimes it affects just the side of a model, other times it affects the model all over (even underneath!).I have no explanation, but experience has taught me that if you look hard enough, especially where the paint is thickest or on the inside face of a paint flake, you will always find at least a hint of the original, true colour.

as though anything red has dissappeared
Re: corgi 426 Booking office
done loads of srfing but not coming up with anything re Chipperfields fading.Seen some make reference to chemical reaction causing colour change in some diecasts that seems more likely and would probably explain why fade affect is allover rather than one side as you would expect from sunlight.
Re: corgi 426 Booking office
Hello Birdy, what sort of chemical reaction are they referring to, would this be at production stage or post factory? Sunlight and extreme heat can definitely affect models on more than one side.birdy wrote:done loads of srfing but not coming up with anything re Chipperfields fading.Seen some make reference to chemical reaction causing colour change in some diecasts that seems more likely and would probably explain why fade affect is allover rather than one side as you would expect from sunlight.

cant recall reasons given for chemical reaction as opposed to sun fade and it would probably take me an age to retrace my steps to find out and i have to leave to go to work.

If the model had been in a confined space where some chemicals were being used such as paint stripper etc, I doubt this would effect the internal artwork, that is why I suggested severe Sunfade, as it would penetrate the glazing and bleach the artwork inside the model.
What colour can be seen inside the wheel-arches, the same Tan-Brown or a nice deep Red.

Yes the Jaguar pics show a pretty similar change of colour ,its more telling with my example due to the detail through the windows thats also badly affected . Whats best thing to do with this - Leave alone or refurb . And what is its value as it stands considering its in pretty good condition fading apart.
