I saw on ebay (item # 291697565347) a Lesney Matchbox Display stand for the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud.
For... £1,999 !!!!
I would like to know your opinion about a such high price.
Is it a sensible offer ?
How much would you say it is worth ?
Thanks for your advice.

Re: Display stand question.
I can not see why it is being priced so high, even at £999, I would find it hard to believe it would ever sell. If he thinks he can sell it at such a price, why the hell can he not include the model, he is not losing anything and as for seeing another example priced at $4.999, Hmm, more like $499 and the decimal point was in the wrong place!
I would be happy to pay no more than £150 for one in the condition shown.

The display is fairly overpriced but you won't get one at 150 gbp.
This is a very rare display. English and german versions do exist and I have seen these in big collections.
Less rare displays are sometimes for sale but they always fetch more then 150 gbp.

Re: Display stand question.
At least now this rare display is priced within reason, and will possibly find a new home very soon. The Seller has created his own problem here though. Over the time of all these price reductions, the impulse Buyer has now had plenty of time to think about this smaller display's re-sale value when compared to a much larger and more detailed 1-75 original Lesney model display. Perhaps that same impulse Buyer may now take a chance and wait for the "next" price reduction after watching all the much higher "Buy It Now" prices on this smaller "New Model" display come and go.
On a 50 year old original display like this one, there is no 'market price' because few others like it even exist. This one is as Mint as they come after all those years, its patina and small flaws are part of its draw to collectors like myself. Most every original Lesney display sale I have followed lately has surprised me by closing at a much higher price than I had thought it was worth. Thanks Fox for this very interesting link, we may all learn something here.......or maybe not... I do love this original 1962 display though....

Re: Display stand question.
I understand it has been said before that this particular display was for the #44A Silver Cloud which actually dates the unit as an early 1958 item, not a 1962 item mentioned by "kwakers", care to give comment our display experts!
