The Mercedes 309 came in 1967 as a successor to the large van-Series L 319 on the market. It was as a panel van, pickup (also a double cabin, often as "DoKa" called) and minibus available. At the beginning of the 1970s, the T2 called mid size truck was for several years in addition available under the name Hanomag Henschel. Daimler-Benz had bought the truck sector of Hanomag-Henschel before some time. Headlights and grille deviated in appearance from Mercedes counterpart from, otherwise the vehicles were identical and were prepared together with the Mercedes T 2 in Dusseldorf. The latest versions were built untill 1996.
Standard cabin - showing the Euro number plates this is an example for all the survivors over a lot of years. One can see them still today, mostly used by scrap collectors and similar branches.
Double cabin - in german Doppel-Kabine (DoKa)
There are hundred versions of buses, mostly built upon frames with fragmental cabins. This photo shows a factory bus with police livery.
The T2 was the prefered mid size truck for all kind of regulatory requirements i.e. Police, firefighters and emergency measures. Attached is the updated version from 1981
The Hanomag-Henschel version of the T2. Note the different front lights.
