As the top of the line Mercedes simultaneously to the 220 SE offered the 300 SE with the series designation W112. The body of the corresponding 220-SEb variant was provided with additional decorative chrome elements. Accordingly, the new exclusive models were equipped with a number of special technical features. The basic equipment includes a light-alloy engine Mercedes-Benz M 189 with three liters, a four-speed automatic transmission, power steering, air suspension and a dual circuit brake system with disc brakes on front and rear wheels. The additional chrome trim consists a continuous chrome strip from the headlights to the rear lights in the longitudinal bead and trim strips on the wheel arches and sills. From March 1963 300 SE Coupé, Cabriolet and sedan also was available with a manual four-speed manual transmission.
