Replicating real cars of my past.

Post by CrazyDave »

My first car was a 69 Beetle, white with red interior. Was easy to replicate.
Who else had a Beetle?

I also had a 68 beetle with steel sunroof, never drove it, pulled the body off and built this -

It appears to be a mobile sun lounge-cum-garden shed on wheels (all in a very 1970s two-tone butterscotch paint job).

Was that meant to be your Passion Wagon NIck??.................I bet there is a double mattress in the back with a mirrored Disco ball attached to the roof, 10CC "It's only love" playing in the background. How did you plan to get it out of your garden??? You Naughty boy!!

Later on I threw out the beetle floorpan and built a proper chassis, installed a rover V8, Jaguar mk10 irs and Triumph Vitesse ifs.
To get it out of the garden I built a table that sat on top of a 4 wheel trolley, invited a load of mates round and lifted the bare shell & chassis 6 feet to sit on the table and wheeled it out over the top of fences and hedges, Then I started having doubts about the chassis so I got ace chassis man Gary Layton to build a new chassis, then put it all back together, I then changed my job so had plenty of money but no time to finish it, I put it in a council yard and it stayed there until about 4 years ago when it went, where to I don't know....

Shaggin Wagon Heaven me thinks Nick. I mean how were you going to drive it on the road it has no headlights, indicators, windscreen wipers, side mirrors, reverse lights etc etc etc.

Seriously mate it looks awful but i kind of love it in a way. :D
