A marraige at last

Post by Moyboy »

Had this loose giftware bus for years and finally have mated it to the special box that was released for the 1979 Royal Visit to Iran which was cancelled due to the revolution over there. Because of this the model was cancelled and never released. here are the 2 together

I wonder to what level it was not released, as I have seen examples at toy fairs, enough to suggest there were normal batch quantities made. It may be they released it to the general public quietly, not tied-in to the Royal visit.

Bit hard not to relate it to the visit as its plastered all over the other side of the model and the box. I know they visited other UAE states there, just not Iran, which was dropped off the tour due to the Ayatollah taking power from the Shah. Why the bus was not 'officially' released due to the other states is being visited is strange. Be interesting to know how many are actually out there in collections.

IIRC, there was also some kind of plastic pouch for the model (plus box?)....
