Y-2 "Dewar's" Bus Decals

Post by hydra427 »

I recently picked up this Y-2 'B' Type Dewar's London Bus with the 4 over 4 windows. The model is near perfect but I am suspicious of the decals on the sides with the "Dewar's". The font, layout, positioning, etc. are all correct when compared with my other models but they almost look "too good". All of the decals on this model are in excellent shape and any reproduced decals I have seen are always off in some way. Any thoughts and opinions are welcome.

Hmmm, that's really a bright white background for the age of the model (nice first type 4 over 4 windows, btw.!).
But other than that I can't see anything wrong with the decals......

I can understand why John's a bit concerned about this one - it most definitely has that 'made yesterday' look about it. However, like John, I can't see anything obviously wrong with it.

John,

The bodywork on your model is in superb order therefore it does not surprise me that the decals are also in mint condition. Looks like a veryvery nice find!

Thanks for all the kind words. I was very lucky to win this one on Ebay as I didn't pay an arm and a leg for it. The seller is very reputable and always has some very nice models.

Quickest way to check is run your finger over the decal ( or tongue if you have fat fingers like me !!) the printed letter parts of the decal should be raised against the background - if its flat then repro decals.

After some closer inspection it looks like this model has reproduction decals. I am suspecting a repaint as well now that I look at the model under a magnifying glass. The color of the seats is a little off and there is a paint scrape at the rear were they pushed them back into position. Time to contact the seller!

It's funny to imagine the seller's surprise if you're trying to lick a model during a toy show or swap meet! :o

I've always found the route to be funny on the bus as it sort of follows the old No.11 bus route a bit but for me , living in Fulham most of my life, Piccadilly was an awful long way from Fulham whereas Putney was just a short ride from Fulham.
