I'm an IT guru of sorts - the problem I've had is directly related to the database that houses the forums with a "too many connections" error displaying - this means the site is so popular that the server is slowing down when it tries to serve the requested pages to so many users at the same time - this normally happens when the machine has insufficient resources (memory, processing power, available connections, etc) to handle all the database requests within the required time frame - when it runs out of resources it gives the error message. Most of the time things are fine but I'm accessing the system from "DownUnder" at times that most others are sleeping safely in their bedsRob wrote:I tend to agree, how about a mod contacting the host company, they should have a help desk.Idris wrote:To me, that is a clear indication that the issue is with the VBD server rather than with a PC operating system or browser.Miller wrote:I´m running XP on this old Lady here, so no worries about MS updates
The version of Windows users are using should not be a factor in the slowing down of the forums, nor should the type of PC/Laptop/Netbook/Tablet/Phone they use.....
Sysadmin intervention is probably necessary to alleviate the problem and it might mean additional resources need to added to the system serving the forums which will no doubt mean more expense for Nick...
