A new Sticky to show off our collection. What say You??

Post by numi »

This ones for Idris & admin to consider and for members to further motivate and "thy shall receive".
Further to topic/request by Miller:
What Miller is trying to say is that we create a new Sticky so that collectors could show off their bulk collections that are in displays similar to Kerbsides collection that is neatly arranged or close. Most collectors im sure have excellent displays filled with collectible matchbox models and eager to post but have been hindered as there is no real place on the forum to show them off.Its a great idea except that there should be some order.Collectors need to crop & shrink their pics appropriately, give clear view pics. Also only enter neat displays instead of jumble job-lots found in boxes as found on Ebay and auction houses.Thats certainly not a display or gallery.
Not all collectors have displays so those who dont can lay them perfectly on a table etc and photographed, either boxed or loose, mint to non-mint.
"Displays" with less than 10x models need not be displayed here except if it is a mini "batch" of ultra rare models......could be discussed further. Remember that this should be our prized forum to show off ones collection so good clear pics and desirable display arrangements should be the order of the day.
Could a warehouse full of matchbox models hidden in boxes be called a collection, yes a hidden collection but a gallery or display?.... i say not.
The Sticky could be called something like this "Our/My Collection' "My Diecast Gallery" , My Collection Display or similar. This would cater for all collectors and all different makes of models.Any collector who wishes to post his collection should name them appropriately eg Motormans Collection-Matchbox.and if he wishes to add his Lone Star collection then he opens another thread as Motormans Collection-Lone Star. Could we discuss further about RW & SF collections or could they be mixed under Matchbox.
The "Look what i just got" sticky should stay and which is appropriate for our latest finds which we accrue at intervals and then added to our collection.
C'mon Guys lets play around with this idea and see if we can reach consensus and approval by Admin & forum members alike. After all this is our forum to enjoy to the fullest.
For love of our hobby, the chase, our disappointments with pain & tears and our achievements and for posterity,i say we should have our wishes granted..... :D
What do our members think?

I'm an exception to that rule. My collection comprises a mere ten vintage pieces!

I agree that we should have a dedicated place to show off our collections, but I think a dedicated sub-forum would work better than a sticky.

Numi, i agree with everything except this:

The reason is simple - it is not given to everyone to present his treasures in fine cabinets and displays. We all collect with the same passion, but not with the same budget. We will see Mib and wrecks used as spaceholders, so I think that the only premise should be, that the photos are presentable.

Miller i think u missed my statement with no mention of affordability or budget ""Not all collectors have displays so those who dont can lay them perfectly on a table etc and photographed, either boxed or loose, mint to non-mint.""

Im also an exception as my collection is not in a display but boxed and packed away due to limited space.I wouldnt be a poster here

If a sub-forum or thread is to be created then one must ask, where? Do u have an idea? We are also trying to prevent these galleries from getting "lost" amongst the other posts.
How does one easily find a collectors gallery without wading thru other posts? It should be simple and similar to the Casting Shows and a Sticky at that.
Lets hear what others say.

Numi, i haven´t overlooked it, but perhaps i misunderstood it. Even if my english isn't that bad, sometimes i know the words, but not their meaning in a sentence.

But single rules are not interesting now - lets go for a sticky subforum as a users gallery!

Making this sub forum sticky shows every user, where to go. In a sub forum we all can open our own threads, dedicated to our collection. I´m not shure, if we should open a new thread for every single marque (matchbox, dinky, whatever) that we collect. Counting in, that we are more than 800 people here, it could end in a flood. I vote for a single thread for one user.

Thank's go to "Numi" for kick starting this topic. I am taking all that has been said on board and find the ideas are very good. I am not sure which would work better. If it is made 'Sticky' the only benefit is we will know where it is, but once a member has posted in it, what happens next, will that member be buying enough additional models to add to His/Her own thread, personally I don't think I would, I don't buy enough additional models to add to the collection, therefore they may not be added to my own thread.

On another forum I have a thread titled...'Ghosthunter collects these'...and I just add pictures of models to it, that contain similar models, be it 1/64th scale or 1/18th scale models, would that work here, not sure.

I think putting your own name in the title may stop viewers seeing your collection once they know what it is a collection of...

Motorman's 'Superfast' collection (as an example), will quickly become a dead thead once every one has seen it and only those interested in 'Superfast' will go back in to see what he has added to his collection, so by not using your name, nobody knows who's collection it is and will look to see if it is something they are interested in.

I would like to see more ideas about the title that I think should include words such as 'Our Collections', 'Our Galleries', 'Member's Gallery' or 'This is what we collect'.

Ghosthunter.

Miller,i seem to be the only one who fights for all forum members rights or requests and who gets her head bitten off

Sometimes i might not express myself well enough so do pardon me.Yes,i do understand your points and all members are here to help u & others find a resolve and as i said earlier that this is our forum and we all should utilize it to the fullest and make our visits and others a pleasure.
Getting back to the gallery. I did mention that no less than 10x models should be posted at a time.the reason being that sometimes we cannot hold back our excitement on our latest single or two finds so thats when the "look what i just got" thread comes in handy. It would be unwise to add a single model to your collection gallery.Wait until u accumulate at least 10x models and then post them in a single pic or even 2x pics showing front or rear of your batch of models. You need to see what works for u.
Hope this helps although we will encounter backlashes & teething problems :D and remember that we are still toying around with ideas to find resolves.
Lets hear what others have to say,we are all ears ;)

Ghosty, Miller´s seventyfive will be filled with my collection and i will continue up to 75 and then add my new aquisitions. If someone wants to see it, he is welcome. If not, well then... ;)

This forum is a place for people with the same passion and i´m shure, they will watch it just for pure curiosity.

Now i understand, what you were saying. But if guys like JimG. will divide their posting by 10 models per post, it will be i lifetime job to post their collection :D

I would rather say that not more than 5 photos should be in a single posting. The upload times will kill my joy viewing them ;)
