New Finds

Post by Fred7A »

Here are the items I bought at Windsor on Saturday.

I think these pumps may be by Master Models. A bit playworn, but I like accessories like these.

One seller had some great Spot On Arkitex sets, including Set C with lighting and shop fronts, but it was out of my budget. Instead I bought these two nice Playcraft sets. Sbould be able to make some nice diorama buildings with these, but can I bring myself to use such beautifully preserved sets?

A couple of Dinkies. I'm not particularly into construction items, but for some reason I've been wanting one of these Aveling Barford Centaur dump trucks for a little while. The turquoise Aston Martin DB6 was reasonably priced, and I was convinced that the example in my collection was in need of upgrading.

When I got home I found that my existing Aston was actually perfectly acceptable, unlike my memory... Taking the opportunity to compare the two models, I did find a difference. My new acquisition has the rear number plate inside a raised frame, while my existing turquoise DB6 (the H-reg) has an amended boot casting with the number plate area flat, presumably to ease application of the sticker. The front number plate plinth has been similarly modified, although it's not as easy to spot. Both these models have the baseplate with "UK" added to the patent number.

I also bought a couple of modern items, which I haven't photographed.

Great pictures Fred and what great 'Playtown' sets, they are fantastic, wish I had, had some of these as a kid, I would still have them as I throw nothing away!

The number plate trick was also done on #152 Phantom V and #158 Silver Shadow and doubtless other models in the range.

That dump truck is awesome! Looks to be about six inches long; how close am I?

Approximately 'O' scale which is 7mm to the foot. These must not be confused with Playcraft's Railway buildings which were 'OO/HO'.
