I have been busy taking photos of my collection again, and have just done the 35 variations I currently own on the 1962 Chevy Corvette. While cross-referencing various lists to catalog them all I came across this....
I have 2 variations of the 1986 Superfast #8 model in orange. Christian's site lists down a variation in wheels being either 10.5mm or 11.5mm starburst, but nothing about this....
One has a white base. I picked it up due to the variation I didn't own not knowing it was unlisted. Both are Macau based, both have 11.5mm wheels, and both have rivets on them looking as they should. There is no other difference apart from the base being painted differently.

That's a nice variation David and to me looks better for being Red as it matches the body better under the bumpers.

Re: Unusual base 1986 SF8 '62 Corvette
This must be the baseplate from the "Blue Flame" US basic range issue which was just about to be phased out at the time when the Superfast version was introduced.
Now the question is whether this is a one-off factory error or if more were made.
I have no doubt about its authenticity, but I would like to know where you got it from. Was it found at a retail store, or did it come from some inside source?

To be honest, I can't remember now where I got it from. I think it was one of the conventions, and I think it was still packaged at the time. But it was a number of years ago, so I am stretching the capabilities of my brain trying to remember. I only just discovered how unusual it was now, as I finally got around to taking photos of my '62 Corvette collection and adding them to my computer photo database.
