Martin I agree with that.
A drawing of what what we thought was the original Riffleman Pub was 1st published in the newsletters and later copied in the 40th years book as being the Riffleman pub, untill many many years later Paul Carr and Steve Brown found out a photograph of the real pub which showed a complete different building.

One thing struck me - we often go back to early material for 'facts' about our hobby, but you really do have to be careful. In Vol 3, Issue 3 (from 1968) there is an article about the different types of boxes and it categorically states that the A (script) box was issued for the first 12 models. If that's the case script boxes for the models 8 through 12 much be the rarest Matchbox items of all! :)

Martin

P.S. I don't think I'll be spending much time searching for them.
Yes, Iagree, and we discussed this before on the old forum. The newsletters were written by marketing people, not by historians or collectors. As a result there are lots of inaccuracies in those pages.

Thanks for posting these, Christian.

Some very interesting nuggets in there, including an editor's response to disgruntled collectors bemoaning Lesney's new direction in the early '70s and mention of the 1973 UK strikes causing disruption to supply in the US.

I've also learned that the Wynn's 19 Road Dragster and 34 Racing Car were A.I.M. member exclusives.
