My first post and recent find

Post by Collect27 »

Wanted to say hello to everyone. I have been reading for a while decided I would join in the discussion. I'm no expert, but certainly looking to learn. I wanted to post a pic of recent find that was bought in a box a Matchbox. I pulled a couple of other what I believe to be rare items out of the box not in mint shape but I'm still happy with them. Thanks for having me.

Thank for link on how to size pictures appropriately. I also thank you for resizing the current photo's. I'm pretty happy with this purchase the model is in pretty good shape I was surprised when I found it in the bunch being the silver model. I read the earlier post about the silver version and wether it was all mask sprayed or bottles sprayed and driver hand painted. On this one clearly bottles were masked...the driver has over sprayed on the seat and I do believe it to be sprayed, but there is a small area where it also looks like a brush stroke. I don't know the exact method for the masks, but to me it would seem that the what may be a brush stroke could be the mask when removed rub against the driver thus giving it a brush like stroke?

Yes Collect27, you have stumbled onto a nice hard to find variation there! It was here with the VBD forum that I developed an appreciation for just what this particular variation represents within the history of that particular casting, and really the MATCHBOX Toys range in general. Like many I initially assumed the silver paint got used for a period during which they ran short on white paint. Why else would you use silver paint on a milk wagon? I believe it was "Tinman" who further illuminated this for me, explaining that this model represents that period in time during which Lesney began experimenting with mask spraying of trim paint. Apparently the silver paint was thin enough to better work with the early mask spraying equipment.
What were your other finds??
