32a Jaguar XK140

Post by Idris »

The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) notes the existence of both light and dark GPW on Nick's variation code 7 (orange-red body).
The AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983) differentiates between light cream and off-white, The cream models are listed as only being available with c/a (MW or GPW), whilst the off-white example occur with c/a (MW or GPW) or r/a (GPW).
Stannard states that the off-white models can be with or without the red trim. Nick has this as standard for all off-white variations. Are these therefore error pieces, or was the red trim actually dropped towards the end of the off-white model's production run?
Houghton notes light and dark GPW for both Nick's variation code 6 (off-white, 9 x 20 GPW, DH, r/a, gloss black baseplate, with web braces) and his code 8 (red body).
U.K. Matchbox did not examine the model.

They're extremely rare nowadays owing to the inherent fragility! (Typos corrected.)

Thank's Hugh.

Here's an example of a cream coloured No. 32a with gold trim that my friend Ali showed during his 2015 ABQ presentation.
I can't remember which Stannard code it was.
It looked to be genuine, probably it is an error piece....
