Post by numi »

Hi All,
I just came across a Roller with treaded wheels. Do they really exist?

I am sure Ghosty will be checking his entire collection of #69's as we speak Numi.

Your model does look unusual with the rest of the wheels appearing to be smooth.

That wheel also appears to have more wear than the others or do my eyes deceive me?

Treaded wheels do exist on the #69 Rolls-Royce and Two types of tread pattern can be found, pictures forthcoming.

Hi MM,this pic is off the net and not mine. The wheel has to be new, perhaps seems to be worn/used due to the treads being minute & semi transparent.Idris could tell us more.Basically im unsure

Since the 69c is one of the early Superfast models, it is normal to find it with treaded Superfast wheels.

Those wheels can be found on all 5 spoke wheeled models made at the time, but it is very unusual to find an example with treads on all four wheels. Much more commonly only one or two of the four (or more) wheels have treads. For this reason I have never made a distinction between treaded and non-treaded Superfast wheels for the purposes of my collection or any cataloguing efforts. Even I have to draw the line somewhere! :ugeek:

If I am not mistaken, the model pictured above seems to have a rather flat black baseplate. If that is the case, that is a rather uncommon feature - more interesting than a treaded wheel.

Here is one of my many examples of the #69c with treaded wheels (tyres), and all four wheels are the same.

It is an early version with solid wheels and no cut-out under the front index plate, sadly it is not a 'Long Seat' version...
