Big Blue Beetle with England Streaker Base

Hi Gentlemen,
Im lost here so your favorite young lady needs some help with regards to cataloging this specimen
Its the Big Blue Vw with England Streaker base and decals all over so leans on preproduction. Kindly view pics and give me an indication of what the model catalog details are or perhaps where i can find all relevant details incl model nos.

Hi Numi

Hope you are well. That is indeed a pre-production model and can also be found in a pale non metallic blue body with identical base to your model. It is catalogued under 46d Hot Chocolate, the USA edition model issued between 1981-1982.

it has to be considered a pre pro even if only for the decals as there are several differences to production models
the yellow stripes across the roof and bonnet are wider the "American Racing Systems" script is in white instead of red and most obvious is Big Blue on the side being set square to the body and in a different font

Thanks MM. I quite hadnt known that this was a preproduction until i looked at the base and immediately knew that this was something special.It was about to get into the Church donation box thinking that it was the common Eastern type.
Thats another lucky find!

As it is a pre-pro, it does not really belong in a box.

If it has to have a box, I would say the best fit would be the type of box in which the regular issue was sold in the USA, i.e. a generic yellow grid box from 1983 or 1984 with the number 46 and the Big Blue name on the end flaps.

Both Dragon Wheels and Hot Chocolate are earlier issues in different liveries, so those models' boxes do not really fit, in my humble opinion.

By the way, I put the pictures of Paul's pre-pro on the Hot Chocolate page because of its Lesney base. Both in my collection and on my website Lesney and non-Lesney models are strictly separated from each other, but pre-pros of non-Lesney models with Lesney bases are a bit difficult to categorize.

Hi Numi

I think it is down to personal preference really when deciding what model to put into what box. I personally always liked picture boxes to house my models, and choosing between 46 Hot Chocolate and 43 Dragon Wheels boxes I would probably go for the 43 Dragon Wheels as it it easier to come by and cheaper to acquire. Being a pre-pro the 43 box might be also be the better suited choice of the two.
