33b Mk3 Ford Zephyr 6

Post by Idris »

The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) does not list any new variations but does comment that the GPW (no indication of which size) can be either light or dark grey. In addition, there is a note which reads "Each variation comes in different but distinct shades of blue-green".
Similarly, the AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983) does not contain any variations not already listed by Nick, but has a note which reads "There are three or more shades to this model from very dark blue-green to very light".
Neither Stannard nor Houghton list any new variations.
U.K. Matchbox did not examine the model.

As we can see by both Antonin and George's excellent pictures, the colors on this model changed many times during the 5 year life of it's production, as well as often during a single code's time off the factory floor. We had a great discussion on these 33B varied shades and colors back on Lefora, and we might now want to add a very clear picture and a footnote on these colors to Nick's listing site to reflect more than the three colors he has illustrated there for comparison. Nick's variation codes also only reflect two main colors without any information on what our eyes can clearly see when the models out of older collections are in hand. If we are not accurate at this time in recording these out of the box factory color shades, all might later be written off as color fades and such by younger collectors without this history at hand. I cannot think of too many other Lesney Models than both the 33A Ford Zodiac and this 33B Ford Zephyr 6 that were allowed such obvious color variations over time out of the factory. Illustrating points like these colors accurately should be our aim before more of us old time store shoppers from the mid 60s are gone......kwakers Happy New Year!! :D

All our posts used to go to an Edit type of hold I believe on LeFora. There you would re-read your Post, then make any corrections you liked at that point. I see we must now hit Preview to do the same, and I really had never tried to edit anything of mine once it had been posted on the Forum. It now seems so simple, even a Caveman can do it........ An early bit of humor for a fine New Years Day! Thanks to Hugh and Ghosty for teaching me a little about these "modern" features I have yet to grasp.......Written on my decade+ old Dell from the Cave, kwakers
