Routemaster bus

Post by Sebastian10 »

Don't know if this version with small back wheels is rare but as it is in poor condition the cost was low

Very interesting, does the inside of the roof on the top deck have a smooth (early casting), or cross-hatched (later casting), finish.

Surely this is just an error model, slight premium on it as some collect errors. Nice find.

Inside of roof has smooth finish

Any idea what premium is for matchbox error pieces e.g. would it be 10% or more ?

Smooth inner roof surface is the earlier casting and the addition of adding surface irregularities such as 'Cross Hatching' is to help with releasing the bare castings from the tooling. Many models have had this addition at some level and other toy or model companies do it.

Mint in box error pieces may well demand a premium, it's down to how badly the collector wants it in His or Her collection, as to how much they are prepaired to pay.

Sadly the Bus you show is not a particularly hard to find model in the first place and I don't think the smaller wheels will add much value to it, I am happy to be proven wrong on this if you do sell for double what you paid... :D

i think they are more of a novelty value than anything else and any premium is really only worth what someone is prepared to pay some may even value them less
I personally don't value them any more than the standard model but do like to pick them up if the price is right

Once you have a very nice collection of most of Lesney's standard models, colours and wheels, with a very deep assortment of all the small casting details that can be found on them, your attention may turn to oddities such as Sebastian's Bus. With two different size wheels on it, this error becomes a very interesting model to have on display to an old time collector like myself. The well loved condition of his Bus may lend it of little interest to some collectors, but I can see a premium value on it for those odd smaller wheels that were put on it 50+ years ago.
