spot the gem
Re: spot the gem
When this lot came up for auction i went "all in" because of the morris but i think it was tim who in a post said something like you have to try on these gambles but most turn out to be repaints ,well thats what happened this time,if it had been a tan morris that would have been in the end of year poll! So the tan morris is a repaint, hence my clue ,"not that obvious," and idis got it straight away, the real gem in this lot was a light green 1a roller, only the second one i have found, the rest had some really good condition ones and a few played with ones,a few had added yellow headlights and blue tak on the wheels so i think these came off a railway set up hence the nice condition of most of them.

Re: spot the gem
There’s nothing wrong with a bit of speculative bidding! (That’s how I got my 14c with roof decal.) Nothing ventured, nothing gained!MOKOSEX wrote:When this lot came up for auction i went "all in" because of the morris but i think it was tim who in a post said something like you have to try on these gambles but most turn out to be repaints.
Sorry.MOKOSEX wrote:idis got it straight away...
Re: spot the gem
Still a very nice lot indeed, congratulations. The moggie may clean up to a reasonable blue by the look of it.

Re: spot the gem
That's cheating, I read it as "no clue as it would be too obvious" but even if you said its green I wouldn't have guessed correctly.MOKOSEX wrote: So the tan morris is a repaint, hence my clue ,"not that obvious," .
a very Nice lot .
Re: spot the gem
I think I will have to take a chance on some of these lots when the budget allows!

Still a very nice few in there . Study study study . Looked very green even compared to the commer pick up . Very nice lot to have and well worth the shot .
Re: spot the gem
When i look at lots like this i use a rule i call the repaint rule,if i can spot a repaint in there then chances are the "gem" is repainted, this mostly applies to odd colours that could be pre pros,i could see the enhancements but the lure of a tan moggie was to much to resist ,the total cost of this lot was around £200 which if you divide by the 60 models makes them £3 to £4 each which is pretty good ,plus i now have a good pale green roller so i am pretty pleased even though the moggie was a repaint,i was lucky with the condition of the others and the light green roller ,most loose lots like this have badly playworn models in so the " gem " is everything.
Another reason i am pleased is a couple of days after these arrived my muir hill hoard arrived,my find of the year (see poll) another gamble but a calculated one,so it was quite a week.

Re: spot the gem
WOW!!! Both lots are Great MOKOSEX, nice shopping. Our childhood collections over here tend to be from the mid to late sixties, no where near the age of your elderly well-kept lot. All the U.S. "Railroad model Hoards" with Mokos this old have pretty much been broken up and scattered out to collectors individually over the last 10 years both because of E Bay, and also because of the ease of evaluating all these early regular wheel models by wheels, colors, etc. With the age and the condition of the models in your first lot, most are considered gems that would be an excellent start for anyone's early Lesney collection. I just love hearing about these Lesney RW treasure hoards still surfacing in 2015, quite exciting. That repainted Moggy can still have a spot on your "Specials" or "Customs" shelf, it brought you quite the bargain lot at a price no one would ever regret paying for such quality. The Muir Hill lot is just unbelievable to me, I must read your Post about them now to find out why they have "Slept" so long before now.....Simply amazing..... MERRY X-MAS a bit early for you, but these Toys are sights we Forum members can all enjoy on our Christmas morning. kwakers
