For Pat - Unlisted

Post by Taniwha »

While going through my type B boxes, I found this one - a Type B5 for the 34a VW. It has the same picture as the type C box with the text to the side of the van. Pat, if you would like to use the pictures on your site, please go right ahead.

With smaller B2 box for comparison:

Hi Antonin,

I had a look with the loupe, and it is still pretty much illegible. All the words look the same though and something like "Camping". It certainly doesn't say the same as what is on the actual model.

It looks like a scribble, even worse when you zoom in :) could the 1st and 3rd words be Company & Name?

Well done !

The illustration is actually the same that was used for the C box.

However, when browsing through my bank of pictures I gathered over the years, I realized there is another variation with the same writings on the model, in which the right number is further away from the model while the model itself is closer to the scroll. The box is a B4 type.

Even more interesting, the two same variations were used for the C box, as I came across both in the pictures I have.

So this is not one, not two, but three new variations to document !

I am in a hurry right now but will post the image later tomorrow.

Thanks again !!

Seems that it's...4 new variations to document !

Main variation 34A-B2-1 was already on the page, showing the size 2 box (Variations 34A-B2-1a and 34A-B2-1b). The size 3 boxes shown on the site is actually one of the two main variations without the lettering on the side of the model (34A-B4-2a and 34A-B5-2b). Turned out there is a second main variation that does not show the lettering on side of the vehicle and I will name the two detailed variations as 34A-B4-3a (B4 box) and 34A-B5-3b (B5 box). This variation is slightly different from the one illustrated on the site as it has the right number a bit further from the model and the model is slightly away from the left of the scroll.

The box that does not show the lettering on the side has a background, while the other one does not.

Now for the variations that show the lettering on the van :
- first has the model further to the right of the left part of the scroll, with a larger "N" on the right and closer to the model 34A-B4-4a, 34A-B5-4a
- second has the model bumper very close to the left part of the scroll, a smaller "N" on the right and further from the model 34A-B4-5a, 34A-B5-5a

I will list 2 variations for each of them for B4 and B5 types.

For the C box, the same pattern as the B box exist. Model can be found closer of away from left end of scroll and right "N" is larger of smaller.

That's a total of 7 main variation for 34A and 14 in all !

Hi Pat,

One of the things that delights me most about the type B boxes is that I hardly ever seem to acquire two the same. While I think your site is admirably comprehensive Pat, I fear your work will never be complete!

It's actually part of the fun. All those box variations remind me of the new model variations that keep appearing. Not only new variation in fact, but new variables as well !

The web site itself is a bobby of its own. With the new sections for Kings Size, Accessory Packs and Major Packs, I have plenty of fun and since there is less documentation than RW for this subject, I expect updates and new finds from fellow collectors. And I have other projects and ideas as well.
