MB38 JEEP / MB5?

Post by daz28 »

Hi Chaps
I was sorting my old collection out, intending to reduce to just the ones I can display as keeping them in the attic is slowly wrecking them.

I found a bubble carded MB38 Jeep with the cannon (no bonnet star). I have seen bases with sleet and snow or the no'38. but mine has a no'5 US Mail truck base.
is this a common thing or a factory error?.

Hi Daz28. I don't know this particular model, only know of it. It may be the case where the particular base casting on your model has been quickly picked up in stores and put into the wrong hopper ready for production, because without reading the base text, an operator would think the castings are the same, so you may have a genuine 'Factory Error' model.

There are actually five different types of base lettering on this same Jeep casting:

No.2 JEEP HOT ROD
JEEP
No.II SLEET-N-SNOW
No.38 JEEP
No.5 U.S. MAIL TRUCK

This topic has been discussed on a few previous occasions. Here is a thread with some more details.
