68a wheel sizes

Post by Tinman »

Does anyone have a 68a with 11mm or 11.5 mm wheels? I just checked five of them with knobby wheels and they were all 10.5. Could Stannard have made a typo and Nick carried the typo over?
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

Joe, my fine tread 68a is 11mm but my knobby wheeled 68a is 10.5 mm, as yours is. I may have some beaters I can check if need be.

Have you checked any fine tread models?

Hello Joe and Jay,

I have checked three mint Radio Trucks with vernier and all have 11mm (11.12 - 11.16mm on most) x 24 tread count.
I can’t recall there being a 10.5mm x knobby tread bpw.

Regards

I personally don't have any fine tread models. But. all my knobby tread ones are 10.5 (and way too close to 10.5 to be considered being just shy of 11mm).

'Just Shy' measurements are a problem, because what suits one collector will not suit another and for Years they could be commenting on what they each consider to be different wheel sizes when in fact they were the same all along... :D

I have remeasured my 68's
MIB unplayed with 45 tread count - 11.57
Played with beater 45 tread count - 11.48
MIB unplayed with 24 tread count - 10.84
It really makes a difference how and where on the tire you measure and even from tire to tire. I don't measure any of the same model the same.
