I would have been very surprised Bob if you did not have them...

The double pipe rack shown in my first picture was first shown during 1972 with the plated Y-7 Rolls-Royce and it stayed in production until 1978, so of course is was subjected to the
baseplate casting changes for the Rolls-Royce 'Fire Engine', Y-6 in 1977.

Was it poor attention to detail in R & D that led to the tyre carrier being too wide for the tyre. Did heads roll for that gaff??

The narrow wheels were replaced for 1973 with a wider design, but the 'Giftware' models still used the narrow design all the way to the end of line in 1978, when 'Giftware' models using the Yesteryear cars were stopped.

Normal models more or less kept pace with casting modifications introduced to ease production and the wider wheels and tyres were fitted on the new re-launched Yesteryear range from 1973 onwards, so Y-7 Rolls-Royce always has a wide spare tyre carrier fitted from when it was first introduced during 1973.

In early 1977, the Y-7 baseplate and wings casting was modified to have wider front and rear springs because it was now being used for the Y-6 Rolls-Royce 'Fire Engine' and when this new casting went over to the plated 'Giftware' version, the wider spare tyre carrier went with it, it was part of the specification for Y-7 from 1977 onwards, but nobody considered the fact that the 'Giftware' version does not use the wider wheels so it does not need the wider spare carrier, but to single out a component for the purpose of matching components, the wider spare tyre carrier was used on the 'Giftware' version and they simply hoped the narrow section tyre would fit sufficiently as to not fall off...end result...a badly fitting narrow tyre on the wider carrier, nobody is going to worry about that and probably not notice...!!
