Very nice Antonin. Yes, checking the Major packs is like a pleasant little vacation from regular wheels for me.

I have a question on the grey version of the M-9... I've just received an item sold as a grey trailer version so I now need information on:

1. Packaging type - mine is in waht I think is the FIRST stle packaging with large drawing of the freighter and no city scape in the background.
2. Tractor baseplate and wheels (trailer wheels are all the B2 type mentioned here and Hendrickson is in quotes. Roof Horns are of the short variety.
3. The shade of grey - my trailers look silver - albeit a dull silver - not a pale or light grey which is what I see in the photos on this thread.
4. Trailer Door colour (mine are blue).

That should do it for now... it was described as "LESNEY MATCHBOX MAJOR PACK M-9 SCARCE GREY PAINTED TRAILER COOPER-JARRETT INC. DOUBLE FREIGHTER NMB" and has yellow labels although I understand the model came with either yellow or orange labels which in turn leads me to believe it should be in the type 3 packaging with the city scape...

BTW - it was not cheap which is why I'm so concerned...

Hi Ian,

I think it would be worthwhile seeing a photo of this for a number of reasons because with 48 to 53 years since sold retail the trailers, dolly tractor and boxes can all be swapped about.

If it was sold as grey trailers there are items of interest from your post.

The tractor unit base plate with inverted commas was the early version and released long before the grey trailers.

If you are unsure of the colour a quick check of the trailer base plate fixing method could be key. If it is tongue and slot at front and rear the trailer will be factory silver.
If it is rivet fixed at front we will need to see photos taken along side your others as this method of fixing applies to both grey and late silver.

You make mention of the B2 wheels on the trailers, we would love to see a base plate and wheels pic of the tractor unit please.

All the best

Hi Bert - thanks for the reply...
1. As this item comes in what I believe was the first release box (Large pictorial freighter on front and Full depth "shelf") I was immediately suspicious.
2. As the tractor unit has the quotes on the base I became more anxious
3. When compared with the three silver trailer versions I have already found in my collection it appears dull but NOT pale or light grey which is what I think it should look like going by the photos on VBD
4. The trailers are early version tongue and slot fixings - this was what decided me that it definitely WASN'T the rare grey version

I will do what I can to get photos taken of all 4 sets I have over the weekend - but there are pressures on my time (and that of my 2 youngest daughters) so it might not happen in a hurry. In the meantime I will contact the vendor and let them know what I think (I believe they are a reputable source and have been mentioned in dispatches on this board so they might even be members)

Can anyone tell me which packaging it should come in if grey? I believe it should be in the 3rd style packaging with the cityscape in the background?

OK - panic over!! Seems like I've been having one of those SENIOR MOMENTS!

Having posted the last message I went off to email the seller only to discover that I had the WRONG seller in mind - which then made me realise I had the WRONG ITEM in mind too! I'd forgotten I'd recently bought two freighter sets  - one is the grey version and STILL TO ARRIVE - the other was this one which also came with a John Gay 410 Dinky.

One this realisation had occurred I then re-read the description of the correct item and am now happy that I have received the item I paid for (and at the significantly lower price!).

So I will now settle down and correctly identify the model ;)

I'll report back later - hopefully with the photos of all the sets

Hi Ian, the couple of boxed sets I have seen (one was ebay and one was Vectis) were in the city-scape boxes but whether they were shipped exclusively in that style box I don't know.

Thanks john - the only one's I've seen photos of came in the cityscape box so I'm hoping that is the only box they were issued in otherwise I'll have to keep searching!
