Shared parts

Post by Tinman »

How many models share the same parts (besides axles, wheels, hubs, tires & tracks)?

The Ford Galaxie Police and the Chevy Taxi share the same interior.
The Fiat and the Corsair share the same interior.
The Ferrari and the Aston Martin racers share the same driver.
The Lotus & BRM share a driver.
The 17 Taxi, MGA, Scout Car share a driver.
Several wreckers & cranes share the same metal and plastic tow hooks (in painted and unpainted metal plus gray, yellow & red plastic).
The decal roundels are shared between models.
The different number 5 bus models share decals.
Beacon lights are shared between 1-75 models and Kingsize models as are the air horns.
The Caddy ambulance and the Merc ambulance share door decals/labels.
I think the pony trailer and the cattle truck share the same ramp.
The pony trailer and the Kingsize Dodge artic horse trailer share the same horses.
The late 60's Leyland trucks share the same windows and bases (with the site hut truck being the only 1 with a different base.
The rare number 2 Muir Hill dumper and the King size Muir Hill dumper share the same decal.
The rectangular Lang decal is shared with the number 2 Muir Hill dumper & Kingsize models of trucks and dozers.
21a & 21b share the same decal.

I'm sure there are other shared parts I can't think of.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

I didn't realise there were so many shared items (ignoring the r/w to s/fast comparisons), but it makes sense that Lesney would look for as many economies of scale as possible. There's also the Ford Fairlane Police and Fire Chief cars which shared the same casting/interior/windows, does that count because it's a bit of a cheat?

The boot casting and the whole front bumper and grille casting used on #24c Silver Shadow found their way on to the #69 Silver Shadow DHC 'Superfast' model.

The #3 and #5 race decals found their way onto the 'Yesteryear' Y-5 Bentley models.

I considered the police/fire chief cars but it is the same casting with different paint & decals. Eventually, they even used the same bases. Same goes for the 8 & 18.

Kingsize tractor transporter and the low loader used the same Ford Cab units. Kingsize also shared some window units, they also shared tow hooks betweem wreckers and cranes. More then one Kingsize model shared decals with 1-75s.

I can't check at the moment but are the hydrosleeves common between any of the tippers or the Tippax? (or does that come under the same heading as tyres/tracks, etc?)

I think the 6c and 17d share this part.

I realise it's not quite a shared 'part' as it forms part of the actual casting, but am I right in thinking that the Leyland Pipe Truck and the DAF Girder Truck have identical platforms?
