Factory Repaints

Post by Idris »

This thread is for Members to show photographs of models which (appear to) have been repainted at the factory. The most well known example of this practice is probably the Matchbox 32a Jaguar, where white-painted bodies were oversprayed in red, so creating a dark orange model.
I suspect most of the models shown will turn out to be RW 1-75s (which is why this topic is in the RW area). However, it seems likely that other ranges are also involved, and we should also bear in mind that, since Lesney indulged in this practice, it is almost certain that other manufacturers would have as well. That being so, factory overpaints from any manufacturer are welcome in this thread. If the number of non-RW 1-75 models becomes significant, the thread will be moved to The Lounge.

Thank's Hugh for creating this thread here.

I personally have several examples of 'Models of Yesteryear' which fall into this area with bodies showing over-painting and bases showing over-painting.

I know other members here and on 'Moyboyz' have further examples of 'Yesteryears' with over-painted bodies.

We have also featured a Dinky Toys #127 Silver Cloud III with an over-painted body of metallic Red over the original metallic Gold.

So yes, it does appear to happen among other toy and model companies.

I got some Dinky showing such over paintings.

As some Dinky-Toys and Corgi was totaly painted over another color that known as a usual one.
For instance, a Corgi Land Rover "Vote for Corgi" that was painted over an all red version.
Corgi-toys ergo sum

Here is a Dinky Toys #127 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III, owned by forum member "Fred7A" and I am sure he won't mind me borrowing Two of his pictures for this thread.

Clearly showing this to have been a metallic Gold car but Over-painted in metallic Red.

Gold was the out-going colour with Red the in-coming colour for 1972.

For a more detailed account of this model you can click on this link...viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3297#p33943

Here is my 'Models of Yesteryear' Y-7 in Yellow.

Pretty ordinary until you look at the baseplate.

You can see areas of bright Pink (circled in Yellow), under the gloss Black paint finish. This because the baseplate has come from a batch that have been sprayed in a Dayglo Pink before a darker candy colour is oversprayed to create a distinctive bright glowing Red.

The model that should have had this baseplate is #Y-6 the Rolls-Royce 'Fire Engine'.
