New dumper hinge for the Muir Hill 2c

Post by Tinman »

Here is a Matchbox regular wheel 2c Muir Hill dumper model I purchased from a board member. One tipper hinge point is missing and the other so badly bent I had to break it off to put it straight.

Here is the broken off hinge point. It goes back on, except it will now be straight like it should be.

The near side is a perfect breaking point for a miniature brass washer repair and it will be fixed with the washer and epoxy. Here is the finished product.

Here is another look at the repaired area. I could have spent some more time and made the washer repair thicker and built up the tipper stop on the back side of the washer. Seeing as how it is almost completely obscured by the dumper, and fully functional, I decided to move on and invest that time in another project.

What a difference location makes. We are just getting into good painting weather. From May through September the humidity is so high here that it causes all sorts of blushing and mottled finishes. I have a window shaker air conditioner in the garage window, I have to turn it on a couple of hours before I start painting to lower the humidity and then I have to turn it off and air out the garage and then start all over again if I want to paint anything else. It's the price we pay for no snow and warm winters here in the sub-tropics.

I buy a two part epoxy from a discount tool chain store. They put it on sale about four or five times a year at $1.00 for the two part pack. I first bought it thinking it might be useful for something but would probably be "too cheap" to perform well. It turns out to be an excellent product and has excellent performance. I no longer buy expensive name brand epoxy and use only the cheap stuff. For those in the USA, it's Harbor Freight Tools house brand of epoxy.

My wife once hosted a "roast" in my honor. The theme was that I was "the cheapest man alive." She didn't have to look too hard to find plenty that agreed with her.
