Fire (Ambulance?) Station
Fire (Ambulance?) Station
Hello Again:
I just purchased a MB Fire Station which is the worse for wear (somebody had fun with it, which is great). I've heard that Lesney had intended to sell an ambulance station patterned after their Fire Station. The difference at the very least was that the Ambulance Station was to have a green roof. Idea was dropped and the green roofed buildings were sold as fire stations. At least that is the story that I have heard.
I would like to clean this up, fix it and make it into an ambulance station. Has anyone seen drawings, photos, etc. of the prototype for the ambulance station? That would help me in this project.
Cheers,
Tito

I think if you google it and go into images you will find a picture. I thought I had a picture here but I can't locate it. I also have a funny feeling another member of the forum re produced one as your thinking of doing.

The only Lesney photo I can remember is in one of the pocket catalogs as a preview of a new release (that never happened). If I remember correctly.
A member here or from the old mcch did convert a station (and did a very nice job of it). The pictures of both the catalog photo and the finished converted station were featured in a thread about the ambulance station. I suspect that thread was also on the old mcch (but could have been from our Lefora days).

It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

Nice work Dave. I would kill for a nice set of doors and I guess I would have to paint them green to match the roof. I could scratch build them or cannibalize from another fire station
The sign seems to be done in Arial and Times New Roman lettering, but I had the same question about the shield on the wall. I checked London ambulances and Fire Service, but no joy.

Hello Dave,CrazyDave wrote:I never noticed the Ambulance Depot, but now that I have, I may turn my "Tire Store" into an Ambulance Depot.
A little green paint for the roof, some custom stickers for the graphics. Piece of cake, I just don't know about the colors or detail on the shield left of the front door.
Anybody?
I do not know if a colour photo by Lesney exists but a previous one shown in the past was made up of the following combinations.
Main building in white walls, Green roof, grey floor- driveway
Two main garage doors were in ivory – cream colour resin(unconfirmed) then painted green
Foyer entry wall tan, light, pink and blue tiles paper labels
Signage
Matchbox word in capitals Ariel dull dark bluish green
Ambulance word in roman capitals in orangey/tan with black shadow
The shield was made up of orangey tan background with bluish green lettering and the scroll/banner below looked like a bluish green with dark lettering.
Office door white.
The maker used a damaged fire station and repainted. His member name was hotwheelsbob and to ensure it was not mistaken for a genuine item he labelled the base accordingly. I understand there was a second one made by another member. It does not appear either member is a current member of this forum.
I have now found a photo posted by hotwheelsbob so I hope he is ok with this being reposted.
Regards
Bert
