Ritchie, can you please show more pictures of your light Pink #24 Silver Shadow. Especially the rear end of the car showing the Silver Painted bumper and the whole of the underside and baseplate, thank you in advance.

I tried to put my #24 RW models following Nick's code. And from my examples, the below can be summarized:

Light pink: code 1
Dark pink:code 1, 2, 7
Cherry red: code 3, 5, 8
Image

Below 2 images are code 1, 7, 8 from left to right (ie. light pink, dark pink, cherry red)

Below image is code 1, 2, 8 from bottom to top (ie. light pink, dark pink, cherry red)
Image

Below image is code 2, 8 (dark pink, cherry red)
Image

Below image is code 1, 8 (light pink, cherry red)
Image

Two shades of pink on code 1 (light pink, dark pink), note both large boot trunk gap

Below images are also the two code 1s (light pink, dark pink)

Thank's Ritchie for the additional pictures and your very carefully posed 'Coded' pictures.

I requested the extra pictures of your light Pink example to study the rear bumper and I want to ask you of your opinion on it's originality, do you think the Silver paint on the rear bumper has been done at the Lesney factory, or has it been done by a previous owner.

Factory Silver paint should NOT scrape off with your finger nail, model paint as would be used by a previous owner will scrape off easily, as even when dry it will not be as hard as factory paint.

The light pink one with the silver rear bumper also has the rear lights painted. Whereas the front indicators have been left alone.
I suspect a non-factory enhancement. Could be one of mine, I do that all of the time.

I think the bumper silver paint was done by a previous owner, non-factory. Because the front grill, including front bumper, have also been painted silver. The factory wouldn't have painted the grill and front bumper. Just no point to do so. And if it were painted by factory or Ecclesney i believe they would have painted it more neatly than the below imho.

PS. Forgot to try with my finger nails. will try tonight.

I agree with you about the front bumper not being painted very well and you would expect the factory to do this properly. The reason for doing it is less clear. We know the level of plating on bare metal components at Lesney was not 100% successful, many components losing their brightness very quickly once subjected to the Atmosphere and even more so when subjected to Children's hands.

There is a very slim chance Lesney painted the bumpers on your example just for promotional purposes regards having a picture taken for an advert or flyer and for this purpose they wanted it to look it's best and a quick lick of Silver paint was added to bring back some brightness to the front of the car and while we are at it, lets put Silver on the rear bumper as well.

I have studied your pictures of the model in light Pink and have no reservations about it being one of the first issues made, the colour is right and what details I can see are also right.

It is feasible Lesney would still want to advertise and promote their models after they had been introduced into the range through the rest of the Year, in this case 1967, especially in other countries where the model may have been introduced later than in the UK.

There is no further evidence I know of to back up what I have said above, so it maybe, or maybe not, a factory trimmed model and the reason for stating the above is connected to a later version of this model shown on the forum with the patent number on the base and full towing facility at the front, but the whole body is in a metallic Blue, with Silver painted rear bumper and painted rear lights and it's provenance is said to be of factory origin.

I use a spray can of chrome paint and it really makes the front end shine.

Many thanks for your detailed explanation. I have tried scratching the silver paints using my finger nail. It did came off quite easily as expected. Thanks for this handy tip!
